Release Notes for 2013.4

Biz-Trakker®

New Fields in Individual Client Records

Head of Household, # in Household and Parent Entrepreneurs were added to the Individual Client records. These fields existed previously in the People records of Company Clients.

Updated Parameters for 2014

Minor but meaningful, each January we update various parameters in Biz-Trakker to accommodate the new year.

The Resource Navigator®

Resource Navigator Search Results Cleanup

We’ve made some formatting changes to how results are displayed, including the ability to click on “Website” to launch the provider’s website, or “Email” to launch an email directly from the results screen. Previously a visitor had to click through to the provider’s profile to do either.

Modifications to Search Options

  • “Name” changed to “Organization Name:” Our friends at AKSourceLink noted that the option to search the database by provider name could be relabeled for a bit of clarity. Thanks for sending us this suggestion!
  • The Distance filter now includes options to limit results to 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles.
  • Affiliates seem to differ a bit on how we refer to “Narrow Your Search, Refine Search or Show Results”. You can now reword these options as you see fit.

Improved Provider Data Report

Reworded Column Headings in Batch Upload File

New affiliates spend much of their time collecting contact and descriptive information on new Resource Partners. The batch upload file lets administrators enter Resource Partner information into an Excel file and then upload information on multiple providers in one fell swoop. The column headings in the sample batch file have been reworded to more clearly differentiate the short, 250 character description from the longer, more in-depth description column.

Calendar Updates

The calendar is a major driver of website traffic on most U.S.SourceLink affiliate sites. We therefore continue to make it a focal point of our efforts. We think you will appreciate these changes, as will your Resource Partners and website visitors:

  • The Create an Event page now auto-populates Resource Partner’s contact information using information from their Resource Navigator profile. We’ve activated this feature for you, however if you wish to deactivate it you can do so as follows: Login to your site, then go to your Create Event Page>Edit Event Creation Form widget>change Automatically Populate Provider Information to No

  • The categorizing of events has long allowed visitors to filter the calendar for only the events in which they are most interested, either by subject matter (business planning, marketing, etc.) or, in statewide calendars, by region. Categorization can now be made mandatory when the events are created by either your internal team or Resource Partners. We’ve activated this feature for you as well, however it can also be deactivated by doing the following: Login to your site, then go to your Create Event Page>Edit Event Creation Form widget>change Require Category to No

  • Our friends at MSENetWorks, NOLASourceLink and the Atlanta Urban League Entrepreneurship Center all gave us some great input on displaying all day events, multiple day events and reccurring events. Handling all three scenarios is now easier with newly added options on the event creation page in the “back end” of the website.

SEO Improvements

When creating a new page, sometimes you’d like it to be under a certain section for simplicity sake, but would also like to keep the URL short and memorable. You now have full control over the URL that is created, regardless of where the page is created.

Previously, when you changed the title of the page it would also rename the URL associated with the page. This was cosmetically a great feature, but somewhat confusing to search engines. We’ve modified the routine to keep the existing URL but allow you to add a secondary URL.

Improved Content Preview

Users can now Preview

Preview functionality has always worked well for previewing “page content.” However previews of News Items, Blog Posts or other items under Content lacked inclusion of the page template (navigation, side bar items, etc.). Enhancements in the preview functionality in this release change that.

Noteworthy Fixes

Login Issues

Kristine D in New Orleans was one of several users who reported trouble logging in, whereby logging in one time at WWW.mysite.com after previously logging in at “mysite.com” (without the “WWW”) created an error message. Some Resource Partners also reported login issues which occurred after their password was updated in Resource Navigator. Both of these issues have been corrected.

Saving Categories

When adding a category to any type of content, clicking Done is no longer mandatory. If you check a category and then click save, your category will be saved.
