Updated NAICS Codes (North American Industry Classification System)

Every five years the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (U.S.OMB to you acronym fans) revisits and makes updates to NAICS codes. In this release we updated the NAICS code tables to reflect the changes for 2012, including:

  • 189 new codes added
  • 215 codes merged
  • 10 code numbers changed
  • 21 “recombinations”
  • 4 new codes spun out of #221119, Other Electric Power Generation:
    • 221114 Solar Electric Power Generation
    • 221115 Wind Electric Power Generation
    • 221115 Geothermal Electric Power Generation
    • 221117 Biomass Electric Power Generation

Note that NAICS no longer provides descriptions. We still have them for the thousands of existing codes already in the system. A rundown of the 2012 changes are available on the NAICS.com home page under Updates.

Calendar Batch Upload Compatibility with Excel

The batch upload routine is a huge time saver for those needing to upload multiple events. In addition to accepting CSV files the routine now also accepts XLS (Excel) files.

Action item: Many affiliates provide instructions to their partners on uploading events. Don’t forget to update instructions to reflect the new Excel compatibility.

New Social Media Icons

We’ve created new integrated additional social media icons for the navigation bar. You now have options for RSS, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn, Flickr, Google+, Pinterest and Vimeo. Melissa in Alaska and Rob in Iowa both requested these during the same week! I guess great minds do think alike. Contact CustomerSupport@USSourceLink.com for help integrating these onto your website.

Resource Partner Long Description Added to Directory Search

Sherry in Des Moines noticed that many of the key search terms for providers are found in the long description field (she’s one smart cookie). Long descriptions are now scanned when users do a keyword search in the Resource Directory.

Back-end Performance Improvements

In this release additional time was dedicated to the things you don’t see. You should notice faster response when working in the back-end of your site.

Import RSS Events Directly to Drafts

Some affiliates use RSS feeds from other calendars to pull event postings into their calendar. These events now post as drafts, allowing administrators the opportunity to review them before going live. Contact CustomerSupport@USSourceLink.com for help setting up RSS feeds for your calendars.
