Each year, the Cities of Service Engaged Cities Award rewards city-led strategies that most successfully engaged citizens to help create and implement solutions to pressing local problems. The application submission deadline is Friday, January 5, 2018.
Cities around the world are involving citizens in creative and effective ways, including civic tech, data analysis, impact volunteering and more. These cities are combining the reach of city hall with the on-the-ground knowledge of citizens to solve public problems.
Applications must be submitted by January 5, 2018. Cities of Service will select 10 finalists. A panel of experts will then review the finalist applications. In May, the 10 finalists will be invited to New York City where the three winners will be announced. The grand prize winner will be awarded $100,000 and two additional cities will each receive $50,000.
The award launched on November 7, 2017, and applications must be submitted by Friday, January 5, 2018.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is taking applications from organizations providing training and counseling to aspiring and existing veteran small business owners. The application submission deadline is Monday, January 8, 2018.
Private organizations, colleges and universities, private sector firms, nonprofit organizations and state, local or tribal governmental agencies are eligible to apply for funding from the SBA to provide training and counseling to aspiring and existing veteran small business owners as a Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC).
The organizations selected to receive the funding will provide training, mentoring and SBA resource navigation to veterans, active duty service members, Reserve, National Guard and military spouses interested in starting or growing a small business.
Each award is made for a base project period of 12 months, with four 12-month option periods.
“SBA’s VBOCs are the boots on the ground when it comes to serving existing and prospective veteran entrepreneurs,” said Barb Carson, Associate Administrator, SBA Office of Veterans Business Development. “Every entrepreneurship journey is different, and each VBOC brings something unique to the table. We’re excited to see this diversity represented in the upcoming applicant pool.”
Applications submitted via other media, including SBA’s website, will be rejected and will not be evaluated. Applications must be submitted via grants.gov by Monday, January 8, 2018.
